Study with IXL This Summer and Win Prizes!

Study with IXL This Summer and Win Prizes!

We’re hosting two contests to inspire summer learning

May 27, 2015

·

At Home

Summer vacation is coming soon, but IXL fun doesn’t have to stop when school’s out! In fact, it’ll be double the sun and double the fun: to keep kids motivated to practice during the summer months, we’re running two different contests for two chances to win amazing prizes!

Study in the Sun—Summer Usage Contest

June 1 to August 31, 2015

Who can answer the most questions on IXL over the summer? We’ll find out with our Study in the Sun contest! The three students in each category—preK-4th grade, 5th-8th grade, and 9th-12th grade—that complete the most questions between June 1 and August 31 will win a Samsung Galaxy tablet! As an added challenge, students must achieve at least 70 percent accuracy on all questions answered during the contest.

We will post updates on the top students in each category here and on our Facebook page on June 30, July 31, and August 14 so kids can see if they’re in the running! Winners will be announced on September 4.

To enter, register here by August 30!

Have questions about the contest? Read the full contest rules and FAQ!

Summer Snapshot Contest

June 1 to August 31, 2015

Why not try practicing IXL somewhere new over the summer? We’re inviting students to send us photos of themselves practicing IXL—whether it’s on a road trip, at a friend’s house, or in the backyard! (Psst…a great way to take IXL on the go is with one of our fabulous mobile apps).

All of the photos we receive will be featured on our Facebook page over the summer, and the three students with the best photos will each receive a $100 Visa gift card!
Here’s how to enter:

  • Take a photo of your child practicing IXL. Make sure the IXL website or mobile app is visible in the photo.
  • Submit the photo*, along with your student’s first name and a caption, to snapshot@ixl.com. Or, post the photo directly to our Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/IXL!
  • The caption can include: Where your child practiced IXL, what he or she likes about IXL, what your student is doing this summer in addition to mastering skills on IXL—and anything else you can think of!

We’ll judge the photos based on creativity, originality, and photo quality, and will announce the winners on September 4. Check out the below photos (of IXL employees) for inspiration!

*Photos of children under 13 must be submitted by the child’s parent or guardian. By submitting a photo you are giving us permission to publish the image and your child’s first name to the IXL Facebook page.

I think that it is a great resource if students use it adequately. They need to write down the questions that they get wrong and study it to be sucessful.

Nathan Crossley June 1, 2015 at 9:59 am

IXL is very fun and cool

Monica June 1, 2015 at 3:41 pm

I hope I win

ronni June 8, 2015 at 6:20 pm

I guess everyone wants to win too…….right?
🙂 GOOD LUCK!

Suzanne June 2, 2015 at 1:26 pm

It’s fun to be with ixl in summer

Mizuki June 2, 2015 at 2:48 pm

I think IXL is really good for kids like me to learn how to do the math for example, mulitiplycation!!

Ivo June 4, 2015 at 8:49 am

I have two questions (I’am in 6th grade):
In wich grade can I work and how many times can I do the sames exercises?

The IXL Team June 4, 2015 at 9:36 am

Hi Ivo, you can practice skills in your grade level, or even above or below if you feel like you want to review easier skills or work ahead on harder skills! Once you have mastered a skill (reached a SmartScore of 100) within the contest period, any additional practice on that skill will not be counted toward your total.

Cathy Frakes June 4, 2015 at 12:53 pm

School’s already out for us, so it’s too late to do hand-outs to my students for practice over the summer. Is there another way I can communicate these summer practice options to my students and their parents?
I do subscribe to “remind”, but only a handful of my parents signed up for this last year. Thanks.

The IXL Team June 5, 2015 at 10:13 am

Hi Cathy, we’d suggest sending an email out to the parents if possible!

Deming Zheng June 5, 2015 at 1:47 am

I enjoy IXL every minute of it. Thanks a lot.

Vidhya June 9, 2015 at 10:34 am

Hi IXL

If my child has completed a skill or grade if he redo the skill will it be counted for the contest or not?

Next question : Is language arts will also be counted?

The IXL Team June 9, 2015 at 12:46 pm

Hi Vidhya, he can redo the skill during the contest period, but once it has been mastered during the contest period, further practice will not count. Both language arts and math practice will be counted!

Syamala June 9, 2015 at 1:54 pm

My child is practicing IXL not from any school. Is he eligible for Study in the Sun—Summer Usage Contest?

The IXL Team June 10, 2015 at 9:27 am

Hi Syamala, absolutely! The contest is open to anyone who has an IXL subscription!

Ann Li June 10, 2015 at 7:24 am

Hi IXL
I like IXL because it let my son practices over the summer. Thanks!

The IXL Team June 10, 2015 at 9:26 am

Thanks Ann! We’re so glad your son is using it to keep his skills fresh over the summer!

Eeshan khullar June 12, 2015 at 4:05 pm

good luck to all. wish everybody could win!!!!!!!!!

Riya Wadhwani June 15, 2015 at 9:57 am

My Daughter loves doing IXL. she has finished 3rd grade and will be going in 4th grade this sept. For this contest she was enrolled for K-3rd grade category.
In IXL she has almost completed 4th grade 80% and also started 5th grade. Will that be counted for her category…or she is suppose to resolve K-3rd grade math and language arts again ?

The IXL Team June 15, 2015 at 11:46 am

Your daughter can practice at any grade level she wants, and the results will be counted!

Swapna Gokhale June 15, 2015 at 1:02 pm

My son just registered for the contest. Is there a way I can find his accuracy?

The IXL Team June 15, 2015 at 1:37 pm

Hi Swapna, to check on your percentage accuracy, visit the Performance by Skill report (https://www.ixl.com/reports/performance/studentbyskill), select the subject/s and grade level/s you practiced, and click “Update report.” Look at the section on the right side of the report that says Problems. Take the total number in the “Problems – Correct” column and divide it by the total number in the “Problems – Total column” to calculate your accuracy percentage.

Natalie Karlsson June 15, 2015 at 1:07 pm

Ever since I lost my kindle I’ve been wanting another device-well, I actually think someone else lost my kindle. And a question……
It this based on the highest score, or the most questions? Thanks!!!

The IXL Team June 15, 2015 at 1:40 pm

The rankings will be based on the number of problems attempted, rather than score. However, you must achieve 70% accuracy on all eligible problems in order to win a prize.

Natalie Karlsson June 15, 2015 at 1:56 pm

What if you get the question wrong? Do you just at least have to get a 70%? And can you see your ranking anywhere, or is it just you guys that can? Thanks sorry about the questions.

The IXL Team June 16, 2015 at 8:54 am

Hi Natalie, 70% accuracy means that of all of the problems you attempted, 70 percent of those problems must have been answered correctly. For example, if you practiced 100 problems during the contest period, at least 70 of those problems must have been answered correctly. The top three students in each grade band will each win a prize.

Chantal June 15, 2015 at 3:57 pm

Do I have to send a picture of my child?

The IXL Team June 16, 2015 at 8:54 am

Hi Chantal, if you’d like to participate in the Summer Snapshot Contest, yes, please send us a photo of your child practicing IXL over the summer!

Lance June 16, 2015 at 5:56 am

Hi IXL
I have one question, Is the 70% accuracy based on your SmartScore meaning you must have 70 or higher as your SmartScore?
Thanks!

The IXL Team June 16, 2015 at 8:55 am

Hi Lance, the 70% accuracy means that of all of the problems you attempted, 70 percent of those problems must have been answered correctly. For example, if you practiced 100 problems during the contest period, at least 70 of those problems must have been answered correctly.

Natalie Karlsson June 16, 2015 at 9:12 am

So how do I calculate that?

The IXL Team June 16, 2015 at 2:29 pm

Hi Natalie, please read our FAQ post for details on how to calculate your accuracy: http://blog.ixl.com/2015/06/16/study-in-the-sun-usage-contest-faqs/ Thanks!

Rida June 16, 2015 at 9:33 am

Hi I wanted to ask you guys a question. If I win, do I have to go anywhere to receive the prize, or does it come in the mail? Thanks and Good Luck to Everyone:)

The IXL Team June 16, 2015 at 2:30 pm

Hi Rida, prizes will be shipped to the winners!

Rida June 16, 2015 at 7:44 pm

Hi IXL! I wanted to ask you guys a question. Say I am over 70% for a random activity, I wanna do 100% for every activity, everything over 70% will it still be counted. For example I did 14 questions (70%)and wanted to do another activity, if I continue to do IXL will the remaining answers be counted?

The IXL Team June 17, 2015 at 9:14 am

Hi Rida, the 70% accuracy means that of all of the problems you attempted, 70 percent of those problems must have been answered correctly. For example, if you practiced 100 problems during the contest period, at least 70 of those problems must have been answered correctly. If you have further questions about the contest, check out our FAQ: http://blog.ixl.com/2015/06/16/study-in-the-sun-usage-contest-faqs/

Cait June 27, 2015 at 10:29 pm

Just wondering, if you’ve done a IXL uhhh…thing before (before the contest time), could you re-do it?

-Cait

The IXL Team June 29, 2015 at 9:25 am

Yes, you can practice skills you’ve done before the contest – however, once a skill has been mastered once during the contest period, further practice on that skill won’t count for the contest.

Aravind June 28, 2015 at 12:23 pm

Have I entered the contest yet? I am not very sure if I did. Could you please check it out?

Thanks

The IXL Team June 29, 2015 at 9:25 am

Please email ixl-info@ixl.com and we can check. Thanks!

Ixl User July 2, 2015 at 6:38 pm

Hi,
I tried emailing my photo to the email address for the summer snapshot contest above and I keep on getting an email saying that it’s not delivered because there is no email of that sort! Please help?

The IXL Team July 8, 2015 at 8:35 am

Hi Bhavani – you can definitely still register your child!

Dominique July 8, 2015 at 9:03 am

My students would like to know if there is a ladder board. They are interested in seeing how the compare to other students in the contest.

The IXL Team July 8, 2015 at 10:09 am

Hi Dominique – we posted a leaderboard in late June, which you can view here: http://blog.ixl.com/2015/06/30/summer-usage-contest-leaderboard-update-1/ We’ll be posting another one later this month as well!

Nidhi Patel July 10, 2015 at 8:14 am

I am using Ixl as a reference for 7th grade so when I enter 7th grade I can know alot of the things. I’m also planing to tell my teacher about Ixl so everyone can do it as a class.

Elizabeth July 19, 2015 at 11:43 am

Can you only put one photo in the contest, or can you put more than one photo?

The IXL Team July 20, 2015 at 9:16 am

Hi Elizabeth, you may enter one photo per child. Thanks!

Lala July 25, 2015 at 10:04 pm

The skills that I completed before June, if I repeat then during the contest will they still count?

The IXL Team July 29, 2015 at 5:18 pm

Hi Lala,

If the skills were mastered prior to the start of the contest, you can go back and practice them again, and those questions will count toward this contest. However, after you master the skill during the contest period, any further practice of that skill will not count.

ashfaque July 26, 2015 at 11:38 am

I am in grade seven and I have entered the summer contest for grade seven so do I only do questions in grade 7 or can I do other grades too. If yes what grades can I do?

The IXL Team July 29, 2015 at 5:17 pm

Hi Ashfaque,

Questions in all grade levels will be counted.

Manahil July 29, 2015 at 7:04 pm

If I am in the grade 8 category can I only do questions in grade 8 or can I do them in grade 7 and 6 as well?

The IXL Team August 5, 2015 at 5:09 pm

Doing them in grade 7 and 6 is fine.

Nate August 14, 2015 at 3:17 am
