IXL Volunteers at the Millbrae Education Foundation Walk-A-Thon

On Saturday, February 4, IXL volunteered at the Millbrae Education Foundation (MEF) Walk-A-Thon for the second year in a row! The MEF is a non-profit, parent-run volunteer organization that raises essential funds to provide technology and music education for the 2500+ students in the city of Millbrae. The MEF held a district-wide walk-a-thon this month to raise money for these programs—including IXL, which is used by 3 out of 5 schools in the district.

IXL Helps an Urban State Park Blossom

Last Saturday, a group of IXL volunteers helped an organization called Literacy for Environmental Justice (LEJ) with an ongoing ecological restoration project at Candlestick Point in San Francisco. The leaders of this project, the Candlestick Point Eco-Stewards, hope to restore the area and open up San Francisco’s second campsite. The campsite will focus on youth involvement and will feature activities like kayaking and paddle boarding.

IXL Employees Share Their Love of Science

During the first weekend of November, thousands of people descended on San Francisco’s AT&T Park to share their love of science. Saturday’s Discovery Day was the final event of the weeklong Bay Area Science Festival and boasted 150 booths with activities for science enthusiasts of all ages. For the first time in the festival’s 6-year history, IXL sponsored a booth—and the day was a great success for everyone!

Repurposing Food at a North Carolina Food Bank

September marked the eighth annual Hunger Action Month, a nationwide campaign to encourage people to take action on the issue of hunger. IXLers in Raleigh honored the cause by volunteering at the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina. The first food bank in the state, this nonprofit has provided food for people at risk of hunger in 34 local counties for more than 35 years!

IXL employees ventured into the wild last Saturday to participate in the Renew the Zoo volunteer opportunity at the San Francisco Zoo & Gardens. We met bright and early at the zoo gates, with the salt smell of the Pacific Ocean in the air, ready to lend a hand to an organization that houses over 1,000 animals from more than 250 species.

Feeding the Hungry with a North Carolina Food Bank

January 30th was just a typical Saturday for some, but not for a group from the IXL Raleigh office! Clad in bright teal shirts, our group of 5 was accompanied by several other groups from local colleges and churches for a total of 60 helping hands at the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina. The Food Bank receives donations from local farmers and grocery stores, but it relies on volunteers to sort and distribute the inventory so that the donations can get where they need to go.
