Activities to Wrap Up the School Year

In the Classroom

There’s no doubt that the end of the school year is about celebration, but it’s also about reflecting on the past year, savoring what time is left, and looking forward to the year ahead.

We scoured the Web for ideas on how to help bring a meaningful close to the school year with your students. Here are three of our favorites:

1. Get feedback from your students

What better way to reflect on your teaching that to ask your students to share their thoughts? Honest feedback can provide valuable insight into students’ learning experiences and even help you improve your teaching. You can print a simple form for students to fill out, or even create a quick online survey using a service like SurveyMonkey. Edutopia offers more tips on how to format and present your survey.

2. Enjoy the warmer weather

Make the most of the remaining school days by enjoying the great outdoors with your students. Take a mini field trip to the playground for a picnic, or take a hint from the education section of U.S. News by assigning students to visit various locations on your school campus and write about memories they have about those particular places.

3. Reach out to the incoming class

Connecting with younger students who will take their place can help foster a sense of accomplishment in outgoing students and provide a nice sense of closure at an otherwise hectic time of year. Not to mention, it can help incoming classes feel more at ease even before they return to school in the fall. We love this idea from Responsive Classroom: “Have each child write a letter to one of next year’s students, welcoming that student to the new grade. Writers can offer one piece of advice or describe something the new student can look forward to.”

Here’s to a great rest of the school year!

Do a Make and Take on the last day of school. They take it home and will always remember you! We will decorate tote bags from Oriental Trading.
