New ELA skill plans

We added the following new textbook skill plans:

We also updated the Reading Street Grade 2 skill plan to showcase some of our newest skills.

New ELA skills

We’ve added over 20 new skills for sight words covering Pre-K through first grade! Sight word skills help students quickly recognize high frequency words, which improves their reading fluency. They’re a major focus in early elementary education. These skills give students repeated practice identifying limited sets of 5-8 words, and some challenge students to identify these words in a more complex sentence context. You can find all of these skills organized in the sight words topic.

Rosetta Stone Foundations skill plan

Rosetta Stone is now part of the IXL family! As part of a collaboration between IXL and Rosetta Stone, we have added a new skill plan for Rosetta Stone’s Foundations program for Grades 6+, which is used to support English Language Learners in K-12! This skill plan provides hand-picked IXL ELA skills that complement and enhance what students are learning in each unit of the Rosetta Stone program. Stay tuned for a similar skill plan for Grades 3–5 soon. In the meantime, check out the new skill plan.

Updated features

IXL video tutorials now available for grade 5

We’ve released over 260 video tutorials for grade 5 math! This initial release includes more than half of the skills in grade 5, including most of the Common Core-aligned skills and many skill-plan-only skills. The remaining skills will have videos added in the coming weeks. See one of the new videos here

We’ve also released 32 new math videos to expand our video tutorial coverage in Algebra I. These cover topics such as solving equations using the order of operations and converting an explicit formula to a recursive formula.

Social studies audio support for grades 2-5

We’ve added audio to questions and explanations for social studies skills in grades 2-5! This audio support allows our elementary school users to complete social studies skills independently and to get the in-the-moment support they need. As with other subjects, grade 2 has audio enabled automatically and grades 3-5 can be enabled optionally.

Lessons for in-skill recommendations

More Lessons have been added to in-skill recommendations for many math skills in grades 3 and up! Lessons are mini study guides that students can use to brush up on key math topics. These Lesson recommendations appear alongside the regular in-skill recommendations, giving students an additional in-the-moment instructional resource. Check out a skill with Lesson recommendations here!
