Major releases

IXL LitRange

The LevelUp™ Diagnostic for ELA is a powerful assessment that turns test scores into standards-aligned reports and just-in-time next steps. Now, we’ve added a new metric to make LevelUp ELA Diagnostic results even more immediately useful: IXL LitRange scores!

Designed to be compatible with Lexile® levels, IXL LitRange scores help users find appropriate reading material for each student based on their IXL LevelUp Diagnostic results.

IXL LitRange scores are available for both teachers and administrators through IXL Analytics. Teachers can find the new LitRange score on the Diagnostic Overview report when looking at student levels under the “Individual student levels & recommendations” section. Administrators can see student LitRange scores via the LevelUp Diagnostic Results report when selecting “View by student” in the data table.

Both teachers and administrators will be able to export LitRange scores via the data exports of both of these reports.

Spanish language arts games

IXL now has games for Spanish language arts in grades 3-5! These games serve as engaging, grade-appropriate tools to help Spanish-speaking students strengthen their language skills and build fluency.

Find the new games on the Spanish language arts grade level pages in the Learning tab. IXL Spanish Language Arts is included with IXL English Language Arts licenses for classes, schools, and districts in the U.S. and Latin American countries.

Skill plan updates and new skills

New NWEA MAP StudyWise plans for Texas

IXL’s StudyWise tool turns students’ previous test scores into their own personalized study plans. We’ve expanded our skill plans and personalized study plans for Texas NWEA MAP to include high school math (Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2) and science (2-5, 6-8). IXL also offers Texas NWEA MAP study plans for math, reading, and language arts.

Teachers and students can now input scores into StudyWise to generate personalized plans that align with these Texas MAP tests. As usual, admins can still request bulk uploading scores for their school.

New math skill

We’ve released several new math skills, all directed towards the Texas financial literacy standards for 3rd grade students.

New English language arts skills

We’ve released six new ELA skills across K-5 reading foundations, reading strategies, and vocabulary.

Highlights include a new kindergarten reading foundation skill, Change one letter to make a new word, designed to strengthen letter-sound relationships and early spelling of short-vowel words. We’ve also added new grade 4-5 reading strategy skills—Draw inferences and identify supporting details and Determine the themes of short stories—to help students use text evidence to understand and make inferences.

New Spanish language arts skills

We’ve released two new SLA skills for students in grades 4 and 5! These skills require students to read informational passages while focusing on identifying key ideas and concepts in order to improve reading comprehension.

New science skills

We’ve released three new science skills!

  • Describe and classify galaxies (Grade 8): Students learn about the characteristics of spiral, elliptical, and irregular galaxies. Then, they use what they have learned to classify real galaxies in space.
  • Determine the equilibrium-constant expression for a reaction (Chemistry): Students practice writing equilibrium-constant expressions for chemical reactions involving homogeneous and heterogeneous equilibria.
  • Double replacement reactions (Chemistry): Students use solubility guidelines to determine if a given double replacement reaction will take place. Then, given two aqueous ionic compounds, students identify the chemical equation that represents a double replacement reaction.

New social studies skill

We’ve released a new high school U.S. History skill.

In The Gulf War, students investigate the reasons for Iraq’s invasion of Kuwait in 1990 and the response of the United States and international community to the crisis. Then, students analyze the development of an international military coalition, Operation Desert Storm, and the short-term and long-term significance of the conflict.

Takeoff alignments and tips for South Dakota

In Takeoff, we’ve added alignments to the Standards for Mathematical Practice to South Dakota! These standards highlight the thinking, reasoning, and communication skills that make for successful math students, and the alignments help teachers identify the most important practices to call out in each Takeoff unit, lesson, mid-unit check-in, and end-of-unit test.

In addition to the alignments, tips on how teachers can support the practices across the unit are found in the “Math practices” tab on the unit outline pages.
