Assess your students’ state standards knowledge

This article was updated on July 24, 2025

Note: In March 2025, we updated the names of IXL’s diagnostics to better reflect the capabilities of our assessments! The assessment names, report titles, and other related terminology in this blog post may not be current. Get more information on the IXL Diagnostics here.

Every IXL LevelUp™ Diagnostic Benchmark window not only assesses students’ grade-level proficiency, but also provides you with exact data on how well your students know each of your state’s standards. Meet the new LevelUp Diagnostic Standards Performance report for district and school administrators!

With this exciting addition, you can ensure your students possess a strong grasp of your state standards, lead improvement efforts, and head into end-of-year testing with confidence.

Here’s everything you need to know about your new report.

Track school- or district-wide state standards knowledge

When you use the IXL LevelUp™ Diagnostic to assess students’ grade-level proficiency, you’re also assessing their knowledge of your state standards! Immediately after students complete their Benchmark, you’ll learn how well they know your state’s math standards in the LevelUp Diagnostic Standards Performance report.

Each standard has a color-coded bar breaking down students’ likelihood of knowing that standard into four categories:

  • Likely knows (dark blue) indicates that the student likely has knowledge of the standard.
  • Partially knows (medium blue) indicates that the student has partial knowledge of the standard.
  • Doesn’t know (light blue) indicates that the student does not know the standard.
  • Not enough data (light gray) indicates that there is not enough data from the assessment to make a determination.

These clear-cut visuals give you an instant read across standards, saving you time analyzing your data. Easily spot which standards most students know and which ones they need to work on, so you can get improvement efforts underway.

For each standard, you can use the dropdown arrows to see your data broken down into more specific groups, including schools (District Analytics only), teachers, and individual students. These detailed views make it easy to spot knowledge gaps, empowering you to direct support where it’s most needed and put every student on a path to progress.

Additionally, you can see Benchmark data from the previous school year, enabling you to track standards performance over time and plan for intervention.

Equipped with these actionable insights throughout the year, you’ll be able to precisely refine your classroom instruction and state test preparation to maximize performance on end-of-year assessments.

Administrators, head over to your new report in IXL District Analytics and IXL School Analytics! Haven’t yet set up your Benchmark window? Check out our implementation guide to start using the IXL LevelUp™ Diagnostic in four simple steps.

Note: For K-8 math, this report is available for all states except Virginia. It is also available in many states for 9-12 math and K-12 ELA. We are actively working to bring this report to more states for 9-12 math and ELA.
