We’ve recently introduced a variety of new math skills filled with visual models, estimation strategies, and more! Read on to learn about the latest updates to our curriculum for grades 1-2 and 4-7, then try it out yourself on IXL.
Visual models and conceptual understanding
Many of our new math skills support conceptual understanding through models, so that students can visualize and master concepts like dividing whole numbers and fractions. We’ve also added several skills on compatible numbers. These skills expand our coverage of decimals and division strategies and, as a bonus, are aligned to our Texas Go Math skill plans for grades 4, 5, and 6.
For grades 1 and 2, we’ve added 10 new skills that use place-value blocks to help students develop strategies for addition.
Crunching numbers using grid models
For grades 4–7, we’ve added 10 math skills that cover decimals, division, taxes, and more.
With this 6th grade skill, students get hands-on with grid models as they learn how to convert fractions to percents.
We also have a new financial literacy skill, which helps students identify different types of taxes in real-world situations.
