IXL Math resources for Spanish-speaking students

This article was updated May 2, 2025

IXL’s approach to personalized learning is designed to support all student populations, including English learners (ELs).

And it’s research-proven to work! Studies show that EL students using IXL experience similar or even more significant gains in performance compared to their peers.

In addition to highly adaptive skills and personalized learning plans, IXL now has even more resources to support Spanish-speaking students when they are learning math. Whether students are on the road to English proficiency or aiming for biliteracy, IXL helps ELs increase their academic language proficiency and build essential math skills simultaneously.

Let’s take a look at some of the math resources designed specifically to support Spanish-speaking learners!

IXL Universal Math Screener in Spanish

In just 20 minutes, IXL’s universal math screener accurately flags students who are at risk of not meeting grade-level standards. Administrators can then promptly plan for intervention and get students the support they need.

The math screener is available in Spanish and allows educators to accurately screen Spanish-speaking students’ math knowledge, independent of their English-language proficiency. Each question was developed and translated by IXL’s highly experienced curriculum specialists and linguists, ensuring that content and difficulty level are equivalent across English and Spanish tests.

To complete the math screener in Spanish, students can simply click on the “ES” button at the top right before starting. Once students start the screener, they will not be able to change the language.

IXL LevelUp™ Math Benchmark in Spanish

The IXL LevelUpTM Math Benchmark Assessment, available for grades PreK-8, enables educators to conduct benchmarking while maximizing instructional time.

The Math Benchmark provides full Spanish-language support, allowing Spanish-speaking students to complete the assessment in their native language.

Students will need to click on the “ES” button on the Math Benchmark before starting. Once students start the assessment, they will not be able to change the language.

On-demand Spanish translation for math skills

On-demand Spanish support is available for IXL math skills, helping students progress in math while building their English proficiency.

With both text and audio translations, IXL’s Spanish support helps students make progress in essential math skills even if they are still building their English language abilities. This removes barriers to success for Spanish-speakers by allowing them to view and hear math questions in their native language.

Questions are presented in English by default, and students can select Spanish support when they need it. This encourages students to tackle problems in English and use translations for support when needed.

From the Profile & Settings menu, teachers have the flexibility to enable Spanish translation and audio support for specific students. Plus, IXL is available in 90+ languages, so teachers can support each of the English learners in their classroom.

Spanish subtitles for video tutorials

IXL video tutorials are bite-sized, expert-led videos that cover strategies for tackling math topics. Each tutorial is paired with an IXL skill, providing timely instruction and support to students, whether they’re at home or in the classroom.

For key math skills, the corresponding video tutorials include both English closed captions and Spanish subtitles. Translated subtitles allow Spanish-speaking students to learn new math skills independently.

To turn on Spanish subtitles, Spanish support must be enabled from the Profile & settings menu. Then, students can select Spanish when clicking on the CC button at the bottom of a video tutorial.
