IXL’s nationally normed assessments help you gain a broader understanding of student achievement not only within your school or district, but also relative to performance across the country.

Compare students using IXL assessments

While traditional assessments leave you with a number, the IXL Assessment Suite provides you with the necessary insights and tools you need to maximize achievement. As soon as students complete an assessment, you’ll instantly know whether they’re meeting grade-level expectations, how they compare to other students, if they may be at risk for reading difficulties, and more. 

The following IXL assessments are nationally normed: 

IXL’s norms were determined using nationally representative samples of student scores at the same grade level. Data on norms is also evaluated periodically to ensure updates are made as needed.

Administrators can see normed data directly within IXL Analytics, presented as percentile ranks. If a 5th grader is at the 70th percentile, they scored higher than 70% of US 5th graders.

With nationally normed percentile data alongside assessment scores, educators can easily contextualize where each learner stands compared to her peers across the country. For example, a student may achieve the highest test score in her class, but still fall below the national average of students at her grade level who have completed the same assessment (i.e., a percentile rank < 50).
