National norms help you contextualize how students are performing on the diagnostic, not only within your school or district, but also relative to their peers across the country.
For example, a student may achieve the highest diagnostic score in her class, but still fall below the national average of students at her grade level who have completed the same assessment. With this broader perspective, you can confidently determine where to focus your intervention efforts and guide students to success.
How to find national norm data in IXL Analytics
District and School Analytics
Administrators can see national norms directly within the LevelUp Diagnostic Results report, presented as percentile ranks. If a 5th grader is at the 65th percentile, this means that she scored higher than 65% of US 5th graders.
At the top of the report, administrators can quickly get a visual breakdown of their students’ percentile ranks using the “National norms” toggle.

Within the report, administrators can view by “Student” to dive deeper into each individual’s percentile rank.

Teacher Analytics
Teachers can also see nationally normed percentiles for all of their students when exporting their LevelUp Diagnostic Overview report.
