What’s new on IXL – October 2020

At IXL, we strive to keep our personalized learning platform in line and up to date with students’ evolving needs. Each month, we compile a list of our top new features to help you—as a learner, educator, or parent—get the most out of IXL.

Read on for a roundup of recent releases, including Spanish translation for math skills, personalized ACT and SAT study plans, and more!

New features

Spanish translation for key math skills

¿Hablas español? IXL has added Spanish-language support for key math skills in 4th and 5th grade, allowing English language learners (ELLs) to view and hear questions in their native tongue! When working on skills, students can toggle between Spanish and English, making it easier for ELLs to succeed in math, while helping them become more proficient in English. Learners can also switch between languages for explanations and in the Learn with an example feature

Teachers can enable the Spanish support for all students on their roster, an individual class, or an individual student. Head to the Profile & Settings menu to turn it on!

Personalized study plans for the SAT and ACT

Students can now create personalized study plans to help them excel on the SAT and ACT! To start, students enter practice or past test scores, and then IXL creates tailored study plans and recommends the exact skills to work on. After students practice, they can enter their new test scores and IXL will update the study plan to meet them at their level. Teachers can even view their students’ plans to track progress and offer support!

Pin skill plans on our iPad and iPhone apps

Students can now view and practice from their pinned plans within our iPad and iPhone apps! (Previously, students would have to use a browser to access their skill plans.) This helps students get to their personalized practice faster while on the go!

Updated features

Activate practice settings for individual students

Teachers can now enable practice settings (hidden grade levels, hidden timer, extended audio support) for an individual class or student. This update allows educators to personalize instruction even further and is especially helpful to those who teach multiple classes or students with different learning needs. This feature is available to teachers using any English-language edition of IXL.

Recommendations from skill plans

Did you know that some IXL skills are built specifically to match textbooks and standards, and are only visible within certain skill plans? These skill-plan only skills will now show up on each student’s Recommendations wall and in their Diagnostic Action Plans. With these changes, IXL’s recommendations will be even more tailored and relevant to each student’s curriculum. Recommendations will appear depending on which skill plan is pinned and whether a student has suggested skills from a specific skill plan. This feature supports skills found in Go Math Texas Grade 5, but will expand to more skill plans soon.

We’ve also added support for in-skill recommendations for skill-plan only skills! This update will help effectively guide students to the perfect support skills from their Go Math Texas Grade 5 and Grade 6, Math in Focus kindergarten, Sadlier Grade 5, and Big Ideas Math 2019 Common Core Grade 6 skill plans.

ELA audio support in international editions

IXL was created so that learners everywhere can receive the support they need to work independently. To further that goal, we’ve added audio support for all 2nd grade English language arts skills in each of our international English-language editions.
