Life at IXL
Why did you join IXL?
I started my career in edtech and both my parents were educators, so finding a way to maximize my impact on education has always been really important to me.
Also, I synced really well with everyone during my interview, so it seemed like a good fit!
What do you do at IXL? Give us a taste of what a typical workday is like for you.
I work closely with the Sales team, so I spend a lot of my day collaborating with the regional sales leaders to understand their needs and develop targeted strategies and tactics for their territories.
What are the 2-3 skills you use most in your job?
Writing! A lot of this job is about copywriting and tailoring our writing to address pain points and the specifics of different regions.
I also need to be really good at juggling and managing competing priorities. Currently, I support 29 states, 40+ reps, and 7 sales managers, and everyone has different needs at different times, and with different timelines, so balance is key!
What has working at IXL been like during the pandemic?
I’d say it’s been pretty good!
I was onboarded remotely, but even still, it was the best onboarding experience I’ve had at any company. It was incredibly well organized, offered a super in-depth knowledge of the product, and was very immersive and engaging.
I try not to have too many meetings in a day, so I still have a lot of freedom to get things done. I also try to set aside blocks of time so I can accomplish things while still maintaining a great work-life balance.
I’ve had lots of support from my team, managers, and the whole organization. There are always fun things going on virtually, like our marketing team socials, wellness activities, and the Make a Difference channel where people give each other shout-outs!
Who do you look up to most at IXL and why?
My manager, Jess Lee! I work with her the most, and she is extremely brilliant and hard working. She’s a very empathetic leader, always advocating for us and giving us the autonomy to work at our own pace. She’s also just a joy to work with and her vibrant personality shines through even on Zoom and Slack!
If you had to describe the ethos of IXL in one sentence, what would it be?
I think it would be that everyone is trying to create a better and more inclusive education experience for students, teachers, administrators, and parents—no matter where you come from or where you are.
Life beyond IXL
What do you like to do in your free time?
I love to rock climb, go outdoors, try new food, and play fetch with my cats!
What’s your guilty pleasure?
Scrolling on TikTok, haha!
As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I wanted to be either a record label owner or the Foreign Minister of China.
How would your friends describe you?
I think they would describe me as chill, adventurous, funny, a good listener, and compassionate.
