Many Happy Returns: IXLers Celebrate August Birthdays at the Raleigh Rescue Mission

While celebrating teammates’ birthdays is a common practice at IXL, on August 15, a group of IXLers threw a birthday party for nine people they had never met. They were volunteering at the Raleigh Rescue Mission, a local organization that helps people experiencing homelessness re-enter the workforce and find permanent places to live.

Special Delivery: IXLers Prepare and Deliver Food for Meals on Wheels

On a hot and sunny Thursday, IXL volunteers arrived at Meals on Wheels of Durham to assemble and deliver meals to homebound residents of the community. This was IXL’s third consecutive year working with the nonprofit, which is committed to enriching the lives of homebound adults and helping them remain independent for as long as possible. With this great mission in mind, IXL was excited to get involved once again!

As the sun rose over the Durham Public Schools Staff Development Center, a group of IXLers carried boxes full of books into the cafeteria and created neat piles for babies, children, and young adults. This was IXL’s third time volunteering with Book Harvest, a Durham, N.C.-based nonprofit that provides books and literacy support to local families. This time, IXL was helping run Book Harvest’s station at Día Day!

A cold fog hung heavy over the North Carolina Zoo on Saturday, March 9, but it did little to dampen the enthusiasm of the IXL volunteers who showed up to lend a hand. They were there to assist the North Carolina Zoo with two projects, one at the Valerie H. Schindler Wildlife Rehabilitation Center, and another at the Avian Propagation Building.

The Most Important Meal of the Day: IXLers Serve Up Breakfast at the Women’s Center of Wake County

On the morning of January 12th, a group of IXL volunteers arrived at the Women’s Center of Wake County in Raleigh, NC with homemade breakfast dishes and clothing donations in hand. After setting up eighteen dishes that included everything from tomato quiche to salami jalapeño corn muffins, the volunteers served breakfast to women experiencing homelessness in the Triangle.
