Introducing IXL LevelUp™ Diagnostic Snapshot: The just-in-time progress check

Every district wants to know whether students are making progress—but waiting until the next major assessment window isn’t always an option. Whether you’re monitoring the impact of a new instructional initiative, checking in after targeted intervention, or preparing for planning conversations, having reliable interim data can make all the difference.

That’s why we’re introducing IXL LevelUp™ Diagnostic Snapshot, a flexible progress check that gives administrators an updated view of student performance between LevelUp Benchmarks. For students with recent Diagnostic activity, a Snapshot can take as little as 15 minutes per subject, helping districts get timely insight without adding another full Benchmark.

A new way to monitor progress

LevelUp Benchmarks give districts rigorous, consistent data at key points throughout the year. But there are also times when leaders need updated insights between them.

LevelUp Snapshots keep you informed between those major assessment windows with timely progress checks. District leaders can use Snapshot data to:

  • Monitor student growth throughout the year
  • Compare performance across schools, classrooms, and grade levels
  • Understand where students are growing and where they may need additional support
  • Identify trends and determine next steps with confidence

Designed for efficiency

Unlike a Benchmark, Snapshots don’t start from scratch. Instead, they build on students’ existing LevelUp Diagnostic activity—including previous Benchmarks, Snapshots, and Real-Time mode practice. That means students only answer the questions needed to update their performance levels.

When students have recent Diagnostic activity, many can complete a Snapshot in as little as 15 minutes per subject. If more time has passed since a student’s last pinpoint, Snapshot simply asks more questions to gather the information needed.

The result is a more efficient progress check that adapts to each student’s Diagnostic history, while providing administrators with consistent, comparable data.

Your existing reports, now with more insight

Snapshot results appear in the same LevelUp reports administrators and teachers use today, making it easy to compare progress over time and alongside Benchmark data. There’s no new reporting workflow to learn—just the same trusted reports with a fuller picture of student growth.

How Snapshot fits into LevelUp

LevelUp gives educators flexible ways to understand student performance depending on the question they need to answer—from formal districtwide measurement to up-to-date instructional insight.

IXL recommends starting the year with a LevelUp Benchmark to establish a strong baseline. From there, administrators can use Snapshots when they need an updated, formal measure of progress between Benchmark windows, while teachers can use Real-Time mode to keep student insights and personalized recommendations current from week to week. Districts can choose the combination and timing of Benchmarks and Snapshots that best fits their assessment strategy.

Ready to get started?

If your school or district already uses LevelUp, administrators can set up Snapshot windows in the same place they create Benchmark windows.
