The Most Important Meal of the Day: IXLers Serve Up Breakfast at the Women’s Center of Wake County

On the morning of January 12th, a group of IXL volunteers arrived at the Women’s Center of Wake County in Raleigh, NC with homemade breakfast dishes and clothing donations in hand. After setting up eighteen dishes that included everything from tomato quiche to salami jalapeño corn muffins, the volunteers served breakfast to women experiencing homelessness in the Triangle.

On Saturday, December 1st, a group of IXL volunteers gathered at the Durham branch of the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina. Teaming up with several other volunteer groups, the IXLers dedicated themselves to a fun-filled morning of food sorting. On the menu for the day—potatoes!

Earning Their Stripes: IXLers Volunteer at the Carolina Tiger Rescue

On October 20th, IXL volunteers gathered at the Carolina Tiger Rescue for a wild day of helping with trail maintenance. The Carolina Tiger Rescue provides a forever home to big cats and other exotic animals who were kept in poor conditions and would not be able to survive in the wild. IXLers were eager to assist the sanctuary, and, to their delight, the day started with a behind-the-scenes tour.

Diaper Duty: IXLers Volunteer at the Diaper Bank of NC

On the last Saturday of September, a group of IXLers volunteered for diaper duty. They spent the day at the Diaper Bank of North Carolina, sorting and packing diapers and other supplies for families throughout the state. In addition to distributing basic necessities, the Diaper Bank’s mission is to advocate for policy reform, raise community awareness, and improve access to personal hygiene products for families living in poverty.

A Novel Time: IXLers Volunteer to Sort Books at Read and Feed

On August 10, eight IXL volunteers sorted over one thousand books for Read and Feed, a children’s literacy nonprofit whose mission is to “give children an appetite for reading.” The aptly named organization uses RVs converted into mobile classrooms to deliver books, reading lessons, and warm meals to over 600 high-need elementary students in neighborhoods throughout Wake County, North Carolina.

IXL Volunteers Return to Meals on Wheels of Durham

On June 25, ten IXL volunteers arrived at Meals on Wheels of Durham to pack and deliver meals to homebound residents in the community. This was IXL’s second year volunteering with Meals on Wheels, which is a national organization that addresses hunger and isolation among millions of seniors. Meals on Wheels is committed to providing both nutritious meals and face-to-face check-ins to as many homebound individuals as possible, and we were excited to once again help out!

On May 12, nine IXL employees, along with other community volunteers, gathered at the base of a hill in Dorothea Dix Park in Raleigh, North Carolina. Their mission was to help rescue the park’s native plant life from invasive species, as part of an ongoing effort to make Dorothea Dix Park a sustainable part of the Raleigh landscape.

All Booked: IXLers Volunteer with Book Harvest

What do Anne of Green Gables, The Little Engine that Could, Dealing with Dragons, and The Magic School Bus have in common? All of these books were sorted by IXLers during a fun-filled day of volunteering with Book Harvest of Durham, North Carolina! On March 24, IXL employees booked it to this nonprofit to help categorize books that will be given to children throughout the area.
